The dangers of silence.

Shake the child awake
For darkness and the day is steeped
In the silence.
The silence in the parliament
The muted bullets in the wind
The shrouds, the shrouds,
Its funereal silence.

The curtain of the theatre
Is black and red in violence,
The opera of the soundless,
Humanity watches in silence.

The killers march in silence,
Mothers cry into pillows
The tongues all lying on the floor
The drums beating out a roar
The streets are empty of protest
Its silence.

The young boys scared into
While you apply make up for
A date in silence
Dropping the nailpaint
On the headlines-
The printing presses silent.

Shuffling about staring at screens
Remember what happened the last
Time the world was silent?
