The names behind collateral damage

Dont fall in love during a war.
Don’t fall in love with those caught up in a war.
When you see them fall, as collateral damage
When you watch the world keep spinning
Unperturbed,
Even when your insides are moulded into memories,
There will be no one who can feel your loss

Knowing the name of an anonymous victim in a far away crime,
Knowing the shape of his teeth and the colour of his eyes
Is a desolation you cannot replace
In this inconsolate world.

Do not love, during war
Even as an act of defiance,
Then you carry the war inside yourself,

A story of a faraway war is too heavy a burden
For one soul to keep
When he is surrounded by the silence
Of dictated peace.
